#About

I am delighted that you are spending time on my website and are interested in learning more about the person behind the posts.

My name is Matthias. I’m 48 years old and live with my wonderful wife and our two amazing children in the peaceful rural town of Marl-Polsum, which, despite being in the center of the Ruhr area, offers a tranquil village life. We’ve enjoyed living here for the past ten years along with our three dogs, two cats, and currently five chicks. Originally from the nearby town of Gelsenkirchen, we are thrilled to have made this move.

Professionally, I am fortunate to work in a field that combines my greatest hobby and passion. For nearly 15 years, I’ve been involved in the IT infrastructure of a major German energy supplier. This role allows me to hone and develop my skills in areas that I am equally passionate about in my personal life, for which I am deeply grateful every day.

Outside of work, you will often find me at the computer, but here I prefer using macOS or Linux operating systems. In addition to my job, I manage my Proxmox cluster consisting of four nodes and oversee the web applications I host on the internet. Given my professional exposure to large corporations and their methodologies, I now prefer open-source alternatives and run them on my own hardware from my own network.

Of course, life isn’t all about bits and bytes. I cherish spending time with my family and friends and engage in voluntary work, often providing IT support in these roles as well. 😉

My interests extend to technology, education, politics, and information on climate and transport transitions. I enjoy exchanging ideas with like-minded individuals in the Fediverse, which is why this blog is also linked to it.

I look forward to connecting with you if you’re interested. Subscribe to this blog or follow my personal profiles. See you around!

Glückauf!
Matthias (Unterschrift)
