# About me

Welcome to my corner of the web! I’m delighted you’re here and interested in learning more about the person behind the posts.

My name is Matthias, and I live with my wonderful wife and two amazing children in the serene town of Marl-Polsum. Despite being nestled in the heart of the Ruhr area, our home offers a peaceful village life that we’ve cherished for over a decade. Alongside our three dogs, two cats, and five lively chicks, we’ve found our slice of tranquility after moving from nearby Gelsenkirchen.

Professionally, I’m fortunate to work in a field that aligns with my greatest passions. For nearly 15 years, I’ve been deeply involved in the IT infrastructure of a major German energy supplier. This role allows me to continuously develop my skills in areas I love, and I’m grateful every day to be able to blend my work with my personal interests.

Outside of the office, you’ll often find me at my computer, where I prefer working with macOS or Linux. In addition to my job, I manage a Proxmox cluster of five nodes and oversee various web applications that I host. My professional experiences with large corporations have driven me towards open-source alternatives, which I now run on my own hardware, directly from my own network.

But life isn’t all about tech! I value quality time with my family and friends and am involved in voluntary work, where I often provide IT support. 😊

Beyond technology, I’m passionate about education, politics, and the climate and transport transitions. I enjoy exchanging ideas with like-minded individuals in the Fediverse, and this blog serves as a bridge to connect with those who share similar interests.

Stay connected and join the conversation – follow me on Sharkey or Pixelfed for updates, insights, and more of what I’m passionate about.

Glückauf!
